The idea is to ‘share & play’ only that part of video in which the real content of interest is. In simple words, the clip from the video that I want my friends or other viewers to see!

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S473XaWNHmk&START=6-42&END=7-12

Because, seriously, when we share videos, we do sometimes comment with it saying: “Hey, check at 1:20, see what the dude is doing!”. So, the point is simple and apart from that the other guy will  view/download only the clip that is of interest not the whole lengthy video!

Below is a video (from) and I just want to share almost 30 seconds of the clip from it, starting from 6:42 till 7:12.

Clip starts at 06:42

Ending at 07:12 (the below pic looks abit same as above but its not; the building below is under attack in the game :) )

After selecting the clip from the video, what I want to share is of exactly 30 seconds as below:

Clear enough.

Losing Steve Jobs has its toll on the company but his spirit and vision of the company is quite clear; innovative, top-quality, interactive, and daily life gadgets making our life easier and more entertaining. Innovation and innovative products has no boundaries and is not associated with only one or two companies, but historically speaking, Apple has been quite successful in pulling off successful innovations and its time that they grab the next big market. Here, I would be discussing about the wearable gadget – iLens to be the next contender in the realm of sophisticated gadgets’ race.
Whats iLens ? It’s a wearable gadget eye lens. ‘i’ in iLens associates the name with Apple company. You still wondering why? Read from the top again.

Now, that every product is shrinking and becoming more personal and touching, this has a natural appeal to be the next contender to replace hand held mobiles, wacky phones, pads, and tops. Things already in research and will-be-in market are:

  • Electronic LED Lens -  You can view like an Eagle – zoom-in/out -
  • Built-in eye motion recognition technology
  • Surface computing

Whats left? Nothing. Challenges are many to bring this technology in to market. First, miniaturization of its every aspect whether it be communication peripherals, power (electrical ?), processor, lens polymer sustainability with all the other parts,  and may be many more. Next step is to bring in the surface computing via lens-camera, e.g. to navigate pages or use virtual keyboard.

Considerable reserach work done  at University of Washington Seattle suggests that the future of iLens doesnt feel like out of the world. Its happening in our life time, for sure!

Bionic Contact Lenses

Who wants to watch the enormous length of 40 seconds “intro” of your video? Probably no one in the right frame of mind unless the person has so much leisure time :) Well, this is true to the very extent. I believe that users should be able to sort this problem out by themselves by sharing their likes and dislikes right in the middle of video content. Users skipping to the “juicy” parts of the video content – is a normal behavior; so, why not create a shortcut for it. People spendig time on video content hosting sites (see wiki here) like youtube can make use of it. Below are the concept pictures of video content Like/Dislike jumps. (Image from youtube video)

Video Content Like Jump
Jumping to the content “Liked by 2000 People”. The LikeDislike Jump bar is below the video’s seek bar.

Video Content DisLike Jump
For dislikes, the same concept, but it would be really entertaining to know and view the video based on user-behavior. I dont know, if video hosting site would prefer to have this option. May be!

Video Content DisLike Jumps
Multiple Jump positions for the users to select from. Would you jump to disliked positions? I can say, I would – just out of curiosity! (thats what social interaction has a result on our behavior and interaction with any web content)

Video Content Like DisLike Jump
To jump to either Like or Dislike video-content, we can have the jump bars alternate to each other.

Video Content Like DisLike Jumps
Like Dislike Seek/Jump bars with multiple positions. I know, it can be messy if many users show their likeness rating. And it can be filled with enormous amount of metadata info and layout info. But, that’s what we don’t need to worry about.

Video Content Like DisLike Jumps with Bookmark and Selective Play Option
It reminds me of my old post which was related to the below concept. But in that it was search based seek positions. See “Semantic Video Indexing Video Content Search” and come back! Here, another important usecase is shown i.e. Play only the portion of video which is most liked or whichever I select based on Likeness rating of the video content.

Video Content Like DisLike Jumps and Social Plugin
Well, I want this. I want to know which of my friends either on FB, Twitter, or LinkedIn etc. have liked/disliked what content. It can be a useful interactive plugin for the video content. I can relate to my friends and might follow the friends which have good taste; then I might not need to manually jump to slective locations.

Ever wondered or seen fancy videos in which newspaper, glassdoors, or books are digitized?

Changing colors, updating news articles, moving pictures, or live Twitter feed in your morning newspaper!

Well, the time is close when this technology will ‘comfortably’ be in public hands. There is a huge potential in electronic paper displays. Millions (becoming billions now) have already been invested in RnD at university research institutes & electronics companies like Sony, Philips NXP, or LG… (to mention the least). EPDs are also sometimes referred as Electronic Ink Displays. The technology behind electronic ink displays is the concept of electronic ink itself. It works like this

(- a grandma explanation),

First take a special very very thin plastic. This plastic surface has very very tiny cavities or holes or pockets. Fill these pockets with the ink (a subsctance). When filled, the wizard of electronics will apply the electronic charge to makde different shapes. Just imagine it as your computer screen. But, now you will be able to play around with the physical pixels ;)

To read a more technical explanation, read this article

Imagine the new advertising platform and the overall impact on the economy of any country with the advent of EPDs.

There are lots of advantages of this technology, like

  • No paper usage – No Tree cutting
  • Reusable – hookup with internet to get updated stuff
  • Paper production, magazine printing costs zero.
  • Another stream of revenue for publishers.
  • Customized news for each individual, because of-course it will become a wifi device, so you might want to get online as well :) (similar product like SmartScanner might be a handy application for this – an article on Pixzr)
  • Realtime distribution of news
  • The display technology can be used in windows, glassdoors, car windscreens, etc.
  • No physical distribution of newspapers/magazines required
  • …. and more

I have got few of these videos which I think, covers most of the things I mentioned above and are very informative,

Well, since this technology is in its infancy, lets learn something new here which is relevant to our hi-tech future,

EPD a.k.a. Electronic Paper Displays will allow the display medium (special plastic) to retain the information (text/images) without using any substantial power.

eInk a.k.a. Electronic Ink: is a specific proprietary type of electronic paper manufactured by E Ink Corporation, founded in 1997 based on research started at the MIT Media Lab. It is currently available commercially in grayscale only and is commonly used in mobile devices such as e-Readers and to a lesser extent mobile phones and watches. [Wikipedia]

Below is just a ‘casual’ comparison of run length of pico/pocket size (or call it handheld) projectors. It is not a hidden truth that battery life in miniature devices is a big problem for electronics manufacturers but now when the PC age is getting expired, iPhone type mobiles are becoming an integral part of computer culture. The inheritance of computer functionality in mobile phones has gained trend but it will take time to become a sustainable product. Battery life is crucial to everything.

Few Pico Projectors with Battery Life

(comparison may vary on different settings, below is the most casual observations taken from their websites)

  1. Optoma PK101 Pico Projector: 90 minutes
  2. Aaxa P1 Pico Projector LCoS Hand-Held Micro Projector: 45 to 60 minutes
  3. Microvision showcase Pico Projector: 2 hours 30 minutes
  4. BeamBox Evolution R1 Pico-Projector: 1 hour 13 minutes
  5. Apolco P3 Micro / Pico Projector: 40 minutes
  6. Samsung MBP200: 2 hours 40 minutes
  7. LG shows off HS102 DLP mobile projector: ~2 hours
  8. Dell’s M109S pocket projector: 1 hour 20minutes
  9. LG HS102 Pocket Projector: -don’t know-

The shift from PC to Laptop, in the past 5-10 years,  was rather swift and everybody feels comfortable with it. Now, everyone who owns a computer also tends to buy a laptop as well. Today, we can see tiny laptops that are almost equal to 15inch length. This miniaturization of laptop has created a new market for projectors’ industry.  The problem is, you dont want to watch a movie in a tiny laptop with 12 inch screen. You still need a big screen.

Apart from tiny screens, ‘Battery Life’ for pico projectors is not going to be solved in a near future but atleast when everyone has a laptop, manufacurers can bring the two together to present a good looking sophisticated laptop.

The idea is to embed projectors in your laptop to make your life more comfortable for entertainment and official-business purposes.

Consider this, your team is going on a car to a remote clients’ office to give a presentation. The route is too long, and you planned to watch a movie on your way (forgetting that you also have to give the presentation through your pico/pocket projector as well). The battery is consumed, lets say, 70%; now what do you want to do. Would you feel comfortable using it for the presentation (when the presentation is heavy and it might also includes some video clips). May be ‘NO’. So, what to do?

What I want to suggest is rather not as attractive as hand held pico projectors, or dual pico projectors in mobile handhelds (related post Mobile Phones Unleashed), but an embedded projector with laptops. The advantage is the extra space we can adapt for higher battery consumption and flexibility to use a laptop for entertainment/work or in corporate environment.

Concept – The idea is to escape the physical boundaries. As the mobile phone operating systems are getting more powerful day by day, so are the display technologies. Monitors and keyboards will be removed from the computers. Wireless devices will also play the key role.

Here, the dual projector mobile phone is illustrated.
